Width × height, and why orientation matters
Our downloads use width × height: 1398 × 2034 px outside and 2670 × 1878 px inside in landscape. Apple lists the inner resolution as 1878 × 2670; rotating the orientation gives the same pixel count. These are export targets, not a guarantee that iOS will show every edge.
Choose a photo that works on both screens
Start with a large original photo. Leave room around faces and landmarks, and preview each crop independently. A wide landscape may lose its sides on the cover; a close-up portrait may lose its top and bottom inside. Keep important details clear of the clock and screen edges.
Avoid stretched or blurry wallpaper
Crop to fill instead of stretching. Download the full JPEG rather than saving a small preview. Enlarging a small image does not restore missing detail. Our maker exports PNG or JPEG and lets you adjust the composition before saving.
Does one file fit both displays?
A shared subject can work well, but the two aspect ratios need separate compositions. Download the cover and inner files as a pair, then check the result on your device. Lock Screen and Home Screen are software destinations; they are not the same distinction as outer and inner hardware displays.
